Welcome to our web site!
Soroptimist International of Willimantic, CT is a volunteer service organization for women in business, management and the professions, who contribute time and financial support to community based projects. Our mission is to improve life for women and girls by identifying needs and working through targeted service projects to address those needs.

Upcoming Soroptimist Events ~
Feb. 1, 2012
- Membership Business Meeting, University Club, Club Road, Willimantic, CT. Social at 6:00pm, dinner begins promptly at 6:15pm. Business meeting to follow.
Please remember to bring your canned goods and non-perishable items for the soup kitchen. For information on attending our business meetings, please contact membership chair, Joan Merritt.

February 4, 2012 ~ Heart to Heart Charity Ball ~ Elks Club, 198 Pleasant Street, Willimantic, CT. Proceeds benefit programs for women and girls including Windham Area Interfaith Ministries providing assistance for families in need. This is our major fundraiser of the year where we partner with another organization in our local community. This year we are partnering with WAIM.

Our club is part of Soroptimist International of the Northeastern Region which totals ten clubs and over 250 members in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. World wide, membership in Soroptimist International has grown to nearly 100,000 women in about 120 countries and territories.

Our Name, Soroptimist, was coined from the Latin "soro" and "optima" meaning the best for women. Soroptimists are truly women at their best...professional and executive women of all ages, cultures and ethnic groups who are known leaders in their fields.

We are making a difference in our local community and in the world!

The Impact of Personal Stories

Sometimes it takes a personal story to help people move from disbelief and denial into action.  At this weekend’s Women of the World Conference, actress Ashley Judd shared a personal story about her friend’s daughter.  After an argument with her parents at the Atlanta airport, the daughter was picked up by a pimp within one hour, and ultimately disappeared for 5 days.  Fortunately she was found–but what happened during those five days has changed her life forever.
